Why it exists
NHS pay is awkward to work out. Pay points, pension tiers, London weighting, unsocial hours, tax and student loans all interact, and the numbers change every April. Plenty of online calculators disagree with each other, and most do not say where their figures come from.
So every rate here comes from NHS Employers, GOV.UK or the Scottish government, and carries the date we last checked it. If you think a figure is wrong, you can follow the link and see for yourself.
What you will find
- Calculators for take-home pay, maternity pay and sick pay.
- The pay scales for England and Scotland, and a page for each band.
- Guides to the pay rise, unsocial hours, pension contributions and London weighting.
The methodology page explains how each number is worked out and where we are still guessing. Updates are logged on the change log.
Who we are not
AfC Pay has no connection with the NHS, NHS England, NHS Scotland, NHS Wales, Health and Social Care Northern Ireland, any trust, or any union. We are not payroll providers and we do not give tax, pension or legal advice.
Paying for the site
The calculators are free and need no account. We may add advertising or referral links one day to cover running costs. If we do, they will be labelled, they will not touch the calculations, and we will update this page and the privacy notice first.
